The senior security guard at the hotel my photographer and I (technically ) snuck into , walks towards me with a huge smile on his face and awkwardly leans in for a hug . I hug him back. He then says ‘Dumela ngwanaka, O monte tota.’ translation- ‘Hello my daughter , you look very beautiful .’ I thanked him of course and braced myself for this shoot sponsored by Touch of Africa.
Touch of Africa
This brand was created by a woman I have, following a couple of meetings and chats , grown to respect and utterly adore. I’ll put in all the links to her beautiful Afrocentric pieces. There will certainly be a few more looks from her spring 2017 line that will be featured on the blog so stay tuned for that. I am after all , an African girl who absolutely loves fashion .
Things I’m Learning
If you want to know how someone feels about you , pay attention to the energy they leave you with. This way, no matter what they say or how much they laugh and smile with you , you always know their true intentions.I say this not to be negative but to genuinely remind you that not everyone wants what’s best for you. That’s not how the world works. Being naïve in a world as cruel as this isn’t ideal, at all.
So that little voice inside you , that says ‘not this’ or ‘not here,’ listen to it. More often than not, it is right . It’s your conscience draped in the softness of a whisper. The more you listen to that voice, the more obvious the whisper becomes. And you will need it in the more critical situations to come.
